Strong earthquake shakes Myanmar

A powerful earthquake shook Myanmar and neighboring Thailand on Friday, killing at least 100 people in Bangkok and burying dozens more when a high-rise building under construction collapsed.

Footage shared on social media in Myanmar’s second-largest city showed widespread destruction, with many feared trapped or dead in the rubble.

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake with an epicenter near Mandalay, Myanmar, struck in the afternoon, followed by a strong 6.4-magnitude aftershock.

The extent of deaths, injuries and destruction caused by the earthquake is still unclear.
